OGS Kent Branch e-mail
Kent Branch's Library usually is open to the public Monday to Saturday 1pm to 5pm, when they are invited to do their own research using materials on our open shelves. A volunteer on duty will assist you in finding the materials we have.
Queries for publishing in the Branch's Newsletter, Roots, Branches, & Twigs, may be submitted by e-mail (no charge to members) or snail-mail $3 per query for non-members. Include e-mail and postal address. Queries usually should be limited to 75 words.
Photocopies of single pages of cemetery or census records are $3.00 first page and $1.00 for each additional page. This can be cheaper than purchasing a book for one or two pages, especially in the case of larger cemeteries or larger census. You must specify exactly which persons' information you want photocopied. Must be prepaid.
Research requests will be conducted in our published Kent
(1) census -- some 50 separate books to be checked
(2) cemeteries -- probably over 125 cemeteries with over 29,000 names
(3) church records -- an assortment of Register entries, etc.
(4) The Commemorative Biographical Record of the County of Kent -- 874 pages (plus index), some 25,000 names
(5) The Western District Marriage Register (1786-1856)
(6) County Marriage Register (1858-1969)
(7) Kent County Marriages (1869-1911)
(This research can involve about 3 or 4 hours of research per individual name.) The fee of $20.00 for each individual person can include up to 10 photocopies and the postage to mail the results. Research will be undertaken only after payment has been received.
For more extensive or specialized research on a particular family Kent Branch will attempt to put you in contact with researchers in our area who will do work outside our library at land records, newspaper records, etc. as well as specialized research within our library. Fees would have to be negotiated between them and yourself.
