Bethoven Lives Upstairs

Beethoven The 1998 touring season of Tricycle Productions featured the play adaptation of Beethoven Lives Upstairs.

The story follows Christoph, a young boy, whose father has just died. His mother, in need of money, rents the upstairs room to Mr. Beethoven, an eccentric boarder who turns the home upside-down. At first Christoph dislikes the new tenant, but eventually comes to understand and appreciate the man as the musical genius known as Beethoven. This story is based on historical events and is highlighted with excerpts of Beethoven's famous compositions.

The play is based on Susan Hamond's award winning Classical Kids casette/compact disc Beetoven Lives Upstairs, which in turn was based on the original work by Barbara Nichol.. Our version made the piece a more theatrical production, while still featuring over two dozen of Beethoven's best-loved classics. Five actors accompanied by wonderful puppets graced the stage to present a unique story of friendship while introducing children to the magic of classical music.
